As the example above shows, these are the types of items that you want to be adding to your thirty-day list. These are non-essential items that you may not necessarily need but would still enjoy possessing. The logic behind this strategy is that when you remove yourself from a situation where you feel as if you need to purchase something the moment you see it, you’re able to truly think about whether or not you want to own it. I’m sure you have been in a situation where all of your friends seem to be purchasing a particular good, and you feel as if you need to buy it in the heat of the moment. The tactic of the thirty-day list seeks to reduce this type of purchasing habit. If after thirty days you come back to the list and still see a rational reason why you should own it, then you should move forward in obtaining it. On the other hand, if you go back to the good in question and don’t see it’s worth the same way that you did thirty days ago, then you can easily walk away from the item.

Visualizing Your Ideal Life

Go into a room and contemplate how you want the space to look, feel, and function. If you have trouble figuring this out initially, there are some questions that you can ask yourself to help your creativity along. These questions include some of the following:

What type of mood do I want the room to express when people walk into it?

Are there currently too many items on display? What important goods do I want people to see in this room?

Am I using my wall space efficiently? Could I be using more of my walls for functionality? Is there currently too many photos or paintings on the walls that clutter the eyes and the brain?
